Rep’s Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) and Brittany Pettersen (D-Colo.) are pushing a bipartisan proposal to allow new parent lawmakers to vote by proxy for up to 12 weeks after a birth or adoption. This plan, supported by a petition with 218 signatures to force a vote, wants to let lawmakers handle family stuff while still doing their Congress job, and Brittany even brought her newborn baby to the floor while giving remarks about the proposal. But is this the kind of issue our representatives should prioritize when pressing national challenges like the economy, border security, and energy policy loom large? Should they put America first over personal accommodations, or does this just highlight a disconnect — maybe we should make all votes proxy and have every representative stay in their district with the people?
