Clyne Solano, a 22-month-old boy from Pasig in the Philippines, (pictured left) was born with hydranencephaly and surgery to relieve pressure on his brain caused part of his enlarged skull to collapse. Clyne has been left with ridges on his skull which, his mother Justine Gatarin (pictured right, holding her son) says people have likened to ‘devil horns’. The boy (inset, Clyne has to breathe and be fed through a tube) will need reconstructive surgery to return his head to a normal shape but Miss Gatarin, 21, is worried he won’t be strong enough for more operations.
