Researchers study how Apple Watch could spot irregular heartbeat

A large research study launched by Apple and Stanford University in 2017 recruited 419,000 participants for its Apple Watch study to screen for heart problems. The researchers found that the Apple Watch’s heart sensor may help spot atrial fibrillation, a heartbeat irregularity that could potentially trigger strokes. While the study provides evidence for the usefulness of wearable technology in heart screenings, experts stress that more study is needed to confirm benefits.
