Tonight On The Record we’re debating whether it’s right to clamp down on the choices of smokers or to protect the rights of those who want clean air. We’re asking because South Africa is expected to introduce very tough new smoking laws. Earlier the Health Department released the Draft Control of Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Bill and the window for public comments is now closed. Health proponents have cheered the bill but some of the manufacturers and pro-choice groups say – if it becomes law – it will strip smokers of their rights and dignity.
