A study conducted by Anglia Ruskin University in United Kingdom has found that heavy intake of alcohol results in uncontrolled iron absorption into the body, putting strain on vital organs and increasing the risk of death.
As published in journal – Clinical Nutrition, the research examined at health outcomes in 877 women in Sub-Saharan Africa over a period of nine years
The results revealed high levels of ferritin – a blood marker of the extent of body iron loading. Iron loading means more alcohol is being absorbed by the body than iron. That is known to cause health issues like heart attacks, liver diseases and diabetes.
