In this video, Dr. Berg talks about one of the function of cholesterol, as an antioxidant. Antioxidant means it is involved in repair to function. Cholesterol is also a precursor to hormones especially sex hormones, testosterone, estrogen and even stress hormones like cortisol. The body makes 3x the amount of cholesterol you get from your diet. He also talks about what causes oxidation.

Hi Guys, In this video I want to talk about 1 of the functions of cholesterol that rarely gets notice or attention. Cholesterol is an antioxidant so its against oxidation which basically means it is involved in reparative function, it acts as a band aid. Cholesterol does a lot of other things, like it is a precursor for hormones especially sex hormones, testosterone, and even stress hormones like cortisol. It also helps make vitamin D, Bile to help you digest, it helps bind microbes, but it is a very powerful antioxidant and your body makes 3x the amount of cholesterol that you get from your diet. So when you are consuming egg, egg yolks, animal protein, fish and seafoods, your body is actually making 3x as much. It needs it for this important repair action because if we take a look at so called bad cholesterol which is really not a bad cholesterol, it is a low density lipoprotein. It is really a little ship that carries little cholesterol in it and it also carries triglycerides for energy and fat soluble vitamins and other things but it’s gonna float around and one of the functions is going to be there so when the receptor for LDL in the lining of the artery need some help, it will reach up with the hand and grab some of that cholesterol to help in the repair. Cholesterol really acts as a firefighter, it is not the fire. It is the fire fighter that is trying to put out the fire. So there is always a reason why cholesterol is going to bind with your arteries and that’s usually because there’s an oxidation. Now the question is, what causes oxidation that would cause the cholesterol to come in there. Well, no. 1 vegetable oils, corn, canola, soy oil that is pretty much in everything. This is very inflammatory to your arteries and to your body. Iron, the type of iron that they fortify grains with and refine grains. It is not the type of irons that you would want to put in the body, it is very oxidizing. Of course, you should not have to worry about that because you are not consuming grains if you are watching my videos. Sugar, refined grains, trans fats and smoking. All of these things could create hole in the artery damage.
