Having diabetes means that you have to be aware of everything you eat or drink. Knowing the amount of carbohydrates you ingest and how they may affect your blood sugar is crucial.
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends zero-calorie or low-calorie drinks. The main reason is to prevent a spike in blood sugar. Choosing the right drinks can help you avoid unpleasant side effects, manage your symptoms. Here we have 4 drinks which help diabetics to control blood sugar and overall health.
Boiled Lemon Water:
The antioxidant properties of the flavones in lemon have been linked to the management of radical damage and inflammation, both of which are prevalent in type 2 diabetes.
Lemon peels also contain vitamins such as vitamin C, beta carotene, folate, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Vitamin C in conjunction with calcium helps with bone health and the prevention of osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory polyarthritis, and other bone conditions. The deficiencies of this vitamin in patients with diabetes result in higher inflammation.
To prepare this amazing remedy we need 1 liter of drinking water and 5-6 lemons
Cut the lemons into equal half’s and start boiling the water in a bowl.
Now add lemons to the boiling water and leave for 10-15 minutes.
Let it sit for some time to cool down and finally strain this boiled water into a glass. Drink this water early in the morning with empty stomach for most effective results.
Boiled Bitter Gourd Water:
Bitter gourd or bitter melon juice is the best natural medicine for diabetes. Drinking it early in the morning on an empty stomach helps lower your blood sugar levels and reduces the possibility of diabetes-related health complications like weight gain, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc.
For this remedy we need:
2-3 fresh bitter gourds
Wash bitter gourds well and cut into pieces. Add these pieces into boiling water and let it boil for 10 minutes.
Finally strain the water and squeeze lemon to enhance taste.
Boiled Potato Water:
Potatoes are a Powerhouse of Nutrition. Sweet potatoes are more nutrient dense than the regular potatoes and hence have much higher health benefits and are treated as one of the super foods. Packed with important vitamins like A, C and B6, sweet potatoes have good antioxidant properties. They’re also an excellent source of dietary fibre, potassium and iron which helps diabetics to lead happy life.
To prepare this recipe take a normal sized potato and peel the skin.
Add this peeled potato into boiling water and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
Finally strain the water into a glass and add a spoon of honey to enhance taste and for effective results. Consume this drink daily early in the morning for more effective results.
Boiled Green Banana Water:
Bananas are one of the most popular fruits around. But what you may not know about bananas is that you don’t have to wait for them to turn yellow to enjoy them. In fact, there may be benefits of eating them green that you don’t get when they’re ripe. Both green and yellow bananas have their own perks, but people who have diabetes should lean toward the green ones.
Take 2-3 green bananas and peel full skin completely out from it.
Without cutting or smashing banana add full bananas to boiling water and leave for 10-15 minutes.
Finally strain this water into a glass and add pinch of turmeric to it and mix well.
Drink these amazing drinks in regular basis for more effective results.
