The organization composed of board-certified plastic surgeons reported seeing a rise in overall plastic surgery and nearly a quarter million more cosmetic procedures in 2018 compared with 2017 in its annual statistics report. An uptick in minimally invasive procedures isn’t surprising, as more are available now than in years past.
A fading stigma of plastic surgery also could be contributing to numbers, as Dr. Alan Matarasso, president of the plastic surgeons society, told USA TODAY his patients are more “out of the closet” about work they’ve had done. He recalled a teen patient who recently had a nose job taking photos of herself in the recovery room.
